The monumental zone vs the free park

Most visitors do not realise that only part of Park Guell requires a ticket. The ticketed monumental zone includes the famous dragon staircase, the Hypostyle Room, and the main terrace. The rest of the park is free to enter at any time.

What is in the monumental zone?

The dragon staircase with its mosaic salamander is the most photographed spot in the park. Below it, the Hypostyle Room holds 86 Doric columns that support the weight of the main terrace above. The terrace itself, with its long mosaic bench, offers sweeping views over Barcelona to the sea.

Tips for your visit

Book timed entry tickets in advance, as the monumental zone has strict capacity limits and sells out weeks ahead in summer. Arrive at opening time (8am) for the best light and smallest crowds. Our tickets include free cancellation up to 24 hours before your visit.

How long should you spend?

Allow 1.5 to 2 hours for the monumental zone at a comfortable pace. The surrounding free park is worth an additional hour if you enjoy walking.

Getting there

The nearest metro is Lesseps (L3) or Vallcarca (L3), both about a 20-minute uphill walk. Bus 24 from Passeig de Gracia stops much closer to the entrance.
